Distinguished federal, state and local elected officials and representatives were present on March 22, 2013, to announce that a gas to liquid manufacturer will locate their new facility in Blair County, PA.
Marcellus GTL, LLC, a private company engaged in the development and operation of plants to convert natural gas to clean fuels, will locate a new facility in Duncansville, Blair County, PA. The project is to construct a Clean Energy Center that will take clean natural gas and produce approximately 84,000 gallons per day of regular gasoline and propane to be marketed locally as transportation fuel and heating uses.
“We want to build a showcase to show our children and grandchildren how energy can be developed responsibly and improve their lives,” said Paul Hamilton, Executive VP of Marcellus GTL, LLC. “We believe this is the way to a more prosperous future in more quality jobs developed through innovation and private dollars.”
This project represents a total project cost in excess of $200 million and will result in 30 new family-sustaining wage positions for the region. In addition to the full time positions at the plant, it is estimated that there will be an additional 60 secondary jobs created and a peak of 120 construction jobs during the 2 year development and construction period.
“We have investigated a number of sites within the Commonwealth and feel that Blair County has all of the attributes for our project’s success,” said John W. Rich, Jr., President
of Marcellus GTL, LLC. “These attributes include utilities, available natural gas, a supportive economic development corporation and a strong
workforce.”
The project is scheduled to begin construction in 2013 and be completed in 2015. The location is a 65 acre site, however, the physical
plan will only occupy approximately
10 acres in the center of the site allowing for a large wooded buffer and a small environmental footprint.
“We have been working with the team from Marcellus GTL, LLC throughout the past year and we are excited about today’s announcement and what this project
represents for our region,” said Martin J. Marasco, President/CEO of ABCD Corp. “We are thankful for the collaborative teamwork from our partners including
Governor Tom Corbett, DCED, DEP as well as local elected officials in making sure that this project was sited here in Blair County.”
