Altoona, PA, June 21, 2021— Altoona-Blair County Development Corporation (ABCD Corp.) has been awarded $316,182 from the Appalachian Regional Commission’s (ARC) Local Access Road Program to extend and convert Lamppost Lane in Allegheny Township, PA. The funds will be used to extend Lamppost Lane by approximately 260 linear feet and convert the roadway into a cul-de-sac, as well as other improvements to the curb radius, drainage, signage, and pavement markings.

The project, Lamppost Lane Extension, will allow the roadway to better accommodate truck turning movements, but most importantly, will provide improved access to two undeveloped lots: a 1.25-acre parcel and a 3-acre parcel. Additionally, the project will support the creation of 25-30 jobs and entice new business development in Allegheny Township.

The application was prepared by Southern Alleghenies Planning & Development Commission (SAP&DC), in coordination with ABCD Corp., PennDOT District 9-0, Blair Companies Real Estate, and Allegheny Township.  Brandon Peters, Transportation Program Manager for Southern Alleghenies, said “this project, made possible by ARC, will provide access to developable acreage in high demand along one of the busiest commercial corridors in Blair County and the Southern Alleghenies Region.  ARC continues to invest in projects designed to create jobs locally and to strengthen the regional economy.”

Congressman John Joyce, MD  is supportive of the project, saying “Improving access to this robust commercial corridor on Lamppost Lane will create economic growth opportunities in Allegheny Township and across Blair County. Supporting our local industries and workforce is key to our region’s economic success, and I thank the leaders of the Altoona-Blair County Development Corporation, Southern Alleghenies Planning & Development Commission, PennDOT District 9, Blair Companies Real Estate who are taking advantage of the new and useful real estate idx plugin to boost their sales, and Allegheny Township for their dedication to securing support for this important project. I will continue advocating to improve the infrastructure of Blair County.”

Stephen J, McKnight, President and CEO of The ABCD Corporation suggested the organization “is glad to be able to serve as the sponsoring agency for this project funding opportunity. The ability to open up additional land for future development along this important developmental corridor is significant. We look forward to working with all parties involved in administering this grant.”
