Over 200 people gathered at the Blair County Convention Center on May 11, 2012 for ABCD Corporation’s Annual Meeting. ABCD was honored to have as its Keynote Speaker, Dr. Robert T. Sweet, Managing Director & Vice President at Wilmington Trust Investment Advisors, a wholly owned subsidiary of M&T Bank.
Dr. Sweet provided a detailed economic presentation. He provided information on the global, national and state and related to those to specifics here in the Blair County Region. Dr. Sweet highlighted that because of our region’s leadership and diversification of industries, we have weathered the economic downturn better than other communities. Special recognition awards were presented to Williamsburg Betterment Group, the Blair County Chamber of Commerce and to John Ferner who is retiring from the American Eagle Paper Mill. This year’s Richard L. McMaster Award which recognizes financial leadership was presented to Tim Sissler, President and CEO of Reliance Bank.
The Annual Alexander A. Notopoulos Award, which recognizes a Blair County business for exceptional employment growth, family sustainable wages, and overall contribution to the community went to General Cable. General Cable’s Altoona Facility has been operating since January of 1989 and is an ISO9000 and ISO/TS16949 registered supplier of automotive products. The Altoona facility has been honored as: 2011, 2009 & 2003 Top 10 Best Plants by Industry Week Magazine; 2011 & 2009 General Cable Award for Safety; 2010 Delphi Pinnacle Award for Supplier Excellence and 2009 General Cable Most Customer Friendly.
The event also included a summary of the past year’s accomplishments and a look into 2013 with the projects soon to be completed here in Blair County.
